Our family’s love of feeding people goes back four generations. Our great grand father, Mohammed Rashid (Senior) first set up a catering business in the 1930s. Working with his friends and family, Mohammed would cater for large community events, cooking traditional Pakistani cuisine in a tiny village close to Dina, in the North East of Pakistan. His dishes were influenced by traditional Punjab dishes, such as Biriani, Jhelumi and Handi, which are still cooked in the Balti House today.
Mohammad’s son Mirza Rashid (Junior), then moved the business to Nakodar where he set up a small, local restaurant cooking dishes he had learnt from his father’s catering business.
This love of food transferred continents when our father, Mohammed Rashid, moved to the UK in 1969 to set up a wholesale food business, selling to local shops and restaurants. Hussain Rashid took over the business but returned to his ancestor’s catering roots by setting up The Balti House in 2001. Here he was joined by brothers Haroon, Mahfooz and Mahmoon.
The Balti House team are passionate about cooking authentic dishes using high quality ingredients and serving these dishes with pride. It is this winning formula of great food and excellent service that keeps our customers coming back for more.
